HEALTH

From birth to aging there are many medical and health related
issues that face our children with Down syndrome. Parents
can take an active role in advocating by accessing written
information regarding advances in healthcare and
research. Many of our children face years of specialists,
while others may be generally healthy, but may need tubes in
their ears or their
tonsils taken out. Some kids will need braces.
Although we live in a time of HMO's and limited choices, a good
reason to be part of a support group such as Gold Coast Down
Syndrome Organization is to have access to information about
doctors who are sensitive to families and kids with
disabilities. Other parents are usually eager to share
ideas and information about their own experiences thus giving
others the tools they need to make informed decisions.

general health as well as specialty and related health issues
for individuals with Down syndrome. |
