Down Syndrome Nutrition Handbook: A Guide to Promoting Healthy LifestylesThe Down Syndrome Nutrition Handbook, A Guide to Promoting Healthy Lifestyles is available from our lending library.  Joan E. Guthrie Medlen's book looks at all aspects of nutrition and health for children with Down syndrome from birth through young adulthood.

NUTRITION

Healthy eating is sometimes difficult for any of us.  There are so many unhealthy eating choices out there and so many opportunities to be tempted from soda to chocolate to ice cream to potato chips!  Our children and young adults with Down syndrome are no different so it is important to set good examples and insist that our kids eat healthy.

Here are a few resources:  The Down Syndrome Nutrition Handbook aims to help parents improve nutrition and manage weight by teaching healthy habits early, but remember it's never too late to start!

Read the August 26, 2007 article in Parade Magazine called, HOW TO RAISE A HEALTHY EATER.  The information is interesting and of course can be applied to all of our children regardless of disability.

Healthy eating and exercise go hand in hand.  A very informative article is  Down Syndrome and Exercise.

Do you have some great ideas for good nutrition to share?  We'd like to include them on this page.  Please email to gcdso@bellsouth.net
